SITZ AND JENSEN FAMILIES PERMANENTLY ENDOW EXPANDED RANGE SCHOLARSHIPS

 

     Helena, MT- the Montana Range Days program is pleased to announce that the Sitz Family and the Sitz Angus Ranch of Harrison and Dillon, and Harold and Lillian Jensen of Baker , who have generously provided scholarships to the Montana Range Days for several years, will be increasing that commitment.  Contributions have been made on their behalf to Montana Range Days, Inc., that will permanently endow  two $1000 scholarships.  The Montana Range Days also provides a scholarship, which will also be $1000, combining for a total of $3000 in scholarships.  All three of these scholarships were previously $500.    

 

     The “Bob Sitz Memorial Scholarship” is given in memory of Bob Sitz, who was a rancher committed to improving range management.  He believed in Montana’s youth and sought to ensure a bright future for Montana’s rangeland, thru education.  Bob was a strong supporter of Montana Range Days, and is a member of its Hall of Fame. 

 

     Harold and Lillian Jensen, long time ranchers from Baker, have spent their ranching years taking care of the range resource.  They have a strong commitment to providing for the education of Montana’s youth, making them strong supporters of Montana Range Days.  Harold is a past Chairman of Range Days, and was a local chairman when it was held at Baker.  He is a member of its Hall of Fame.    

 

     These scholarships are provided to assist young persons with an interest in Range Science.  Since its beginning in 1977, Montana Range Days has grown to become the largest rangeland education event in the region, involving over 300 adults and youth for three days of on-the-ground training each June.  Co-sponsored by the Northern Ag Network and hosted by locations across the state, helping thousands of participants learn the skills of good range stewardship.  Montana Range Days, Inc. is a non-profit educational foundation, with a permanent endowment fund that utilizes tax-deductible contributions and gifts to support range management education.

 

     Students planning to major in Range Science or a related field, are encouraged to apply for all three of the Montana Range Days Scholarships, (the Bob Sitz Memorial Scholarship, the Montana Range Days Scholarship, and the Harold and Lillian Jensen Scholarship), by completing a simple one-page application form.  An application form can be obtained by going to the Montana Range Days web site at www.MontanaRangeDays.com or by contacting:

     Selection is based on the applicant’s involvement in range activities, leadership, academic achievement, and financial need.  The deadline for application forms to be submitted is April 30, 2008.  The winners will be announced publicly at a presentation on June 17th at the 2008 Montana Range Days in Conrad.
